"You first," JD said. "How did it go with the movie star?"

"We had a nice evening."

"And?"

"And we talked."

"And?"

"There is no and. We just had a few drinks, and she crashed in the guest stateroom."

"The guest stateroom?" he said, stunned.

“She just needed a friend."

"You're slipping."

"I am not slipping. I didn't even try. Besides, Daniels called in the middle of the night."

"I saw that you called pretty late. What happened?"

I gave him the scoop.

"No shit?"

"We'll talk to one of the perps today and see if he spills the beans,” I said. “Should have picked up the phone."

"I was preoccupied."

"Do tell.”

"So I left Turtles. I figured I'd stop in at Red November, and who do I see…?"

"The woman of your dreams?"

"I managed to work the old Donovan magic."

I rolled my eyes.

"We hung out for a few drinks."

"And?"

"She picked up the tab."

"And?"

"Well, I can tell you her bodyguards didn't like us hanging out together. But we kinda hit it off."

"Really?" I said, skeptical.

"We closed the club down, then went back to her place. She's got a nice boat."

"As nice as ours?"

"No, but it's nothing to sneeze at."

"Did you close the deal?"

"I'm playing it cool. Reverse psychology."

"Reverse psychology?"

"I'm sure she was totally expecting me to make a move. But I restrained myself. Now she's gotta chase me."

"Didn't you just give me grief for restraining myself?"

"Point being, that classifies as a date. Pay up."

"Technically, that was a random encounter at a bar. The deal was that she has to agree to meet you at a predetermined location to spend time with you for the purpose of enjoying your company."

"We’re splitting hairs, aren't we?"

"We either live in a world with rules, or there's complete anarchy," I teased.

"Okay. I'm confident I'll get her to go on an actual date with me. There'll be no way you can weasel out of it, either."

"I'm not weaseling out of anything. Just making sure we're doing things by the book."

"You and that book of yours." He scoffed. “It's destiny, I'm telling you. It's written in the stars. That's three times I've randomly bumped into her. If that ain't the Universe telling me something, I don't know what is."

"Maybe the Universe is just messing with you."

"Oh, it's messing with me, alright. I can't get her out of my head."

"I've noticed."

"She’s smart, funny, and she laughs at my jokes. And that body. KAPOW! You know what I'm talking about."

Giselle certainly had tantalizing assets.

"Where is Little Ms. Silver Screen?"

"I think she is still here," I said.

Commotion filtered from the galley below, along with the delightful aroma of bacon and coffee.

"In fact, I think she is cooking breakfast at the moment."

"Well then, I'll be right over."

I laughed and ended the call, then pulled myself out of bed, dressed, and staggered to the main deck.

Violet wore a white bathrobe that she'd gotten from the guest en suite. She had it cinched tight at the waist. The short robe showed off her smooth, toned legs. "Morning."

"Morning," I said. "Smells good."

"You have a good night’s sleep?"

I laughed. "Not really."

I gave her the details of my morning.
